A problem I have dealt with during the process of this project is not creating the idea or developing, it was to explain and give evidence in what I am going to create. I started with the idea with books being the main focus and having a colour palette of Black and white. Further on I tried to add more concept and ideas that mislead the plot and so forth. I have learnt that changing ideas and or developing old ones in a different direction is not a bad thing. I have now have a solid plan in what I am, going to create with the same underlining ideas from the beginning.

After pitch my idea infront of an audience and having to explain the details for my project, it came more apparent the holes I had in the plot in particular. I decided to take the original idea of black and white and mental illness and use that in the new project. I still want to create a piece to give a new impression on mental illness and my research has shown either the easier signs of depression or the after effect of the illness. I haven't found a short film or advert that focuses on the long recovery process. I plan to visually show the long process and the risks willing to take to get better. I have also decided to focus on the mise en scene style rather the the dialogue. I am going to have a simple dialogue at the end of the piece, but the most part it is going to be silent.
Things to work on:
Things to work on:
- Further research into Mental Health issues
- 'Mind' case studies
- Identification and breakdown of Mind Target audience
- Further critical analysis of adverts - techniques, themes, character, representation

A test shoot took place 2 weeks prior, It was established that new angles and heights needed to be calculated before hand as well as looking at space at the different locations on set. Shooting at 2-5pm BST time meant the sun was able used as the room is east facing.
I was able to grab stills from the test and show the shots that I like. The plot needs to be elaborated to add more flow. Looking at the plot again the idea to show the differences between what we want people to see and how it is. Using a sequence with gaps means the second run through can add the reality and playing with the second half to make it impactful and hard hitting the audience. -> Inspired by the met gala scene in oceans 8, Isn't until after the heist you find out what else happens, new scenes are revealed. |

Trying to use the Xa25 to shoot my film did not work out as planned as the camera does not fit with the requirements. A camera like the Xa25 fit more for filming action or moving shots. My film is being shot on a tripod and the shots a still. As well as changing the settings to shoot in black and white was a challenge to do. Trying to change the footage to black and white to post production wasn't as simple and would make post production take longer than needed. Seeing footage changed into black and white in post production looks more artificial and is not the style that I want to go with. Having this problem, means that production time is shorten so I can spend the approiacate time on post production and having the ability to reshoot scenes if needed. Location has been kept to 2 locations that are accessible and don't interfere with and out side parties.

The start if editing process came with challenges and showed the importance of pre production and having a complete story board or timeline accessible and of use. I was able to produce a first edit which showed parts that needed to be looked at more and the contrast between the 3 plots.

Looking at the edit as a whole it became apparent that the story needs to be more embellished so the story is more clear and simpler for the audience to grasp the story. A way I plan on doing this is looking at the pace and the tempo of the three sections. I shall also look at picking clips that show different. views from the same angle. A clearer story board was needed for the sections as well as at least screen grabs/stills to help structure the story.
A difficulty that was hard to overcome was lighting in the location. There was only one point of light, and shooting in moving black and white at 3 to 5 point of light is needed. If using a set in a studio or making a make shift one it would have improved the overall quality of the black and white.

After the showing I had positive feedback by a couple people saying the enjoyed while others still found it difficult to understand, In the future looking at the story and deleveploing the plot will be my main focus and having the research to back it up. This project has opened up which parts in film making I enjoy and parts I hate as well as parts that need improvement. The original idea I presented at the start of this process is not what I produced at the end however there main underlining elements are still there with similar ideas where met. Example being a noir production, while reflecting on mental health. The message I wanted to give is still there in the fact that I want people to have more of an understanding of illness and the first view of someone is not nessassiary the correct one or the real one. My research helped a lot however I only research low light and lighting while at the end of the making of this project. Adding a section on Orson Wells with his films Citizen Kane as well as his work touch of evil could have improved the noir genre that I was looking at. I would say practically I was able to produce some good looking shots with some effect angles. I am proud that I was produce a Noir production and parts of the film I'm proud on how it had turned out as well as the feedback from friends and peers. Definitely want to explore the genre of Noir again.
